  Breaking the bottleneck, Chao Li proudly presents ZINC POWER E.D.P. that provides a shining and smooth appearance of non toxic finish, and the cost is only 20 ~ 30% of that of trivalent chromium treatment. The new coating method is cost effective and exceeds the requirements of the EU RoHS Directive.  
   
  As a leader in plating and metal finishing, Mr. Allen Cheng, the General Manager of Chao Li, said, “Do your products comply with the RoHS standards?” RoHS is an environmental regulation set forth by the European Parliament with the expectation to reduce the manufacturing use of hazardous substances in the production of new electrical and electronic equipment. It aims to reduce the Waste and establishes laws regarding proper disposal of electronic products to minimize the environmental impact of electrical and electronic equipment when it reaches the end of its life.  
   
  Mr. Cheng pointed out that the main purpose of plating and metal finishing is to prevent corrosion, oxidization, enhance strength and meet consumer need for a decorative appearance by depositing a blanket coat of a metal layer onto the substrate. The metal with more stable behavior often costs more. Plating and metal finishing is commonly used in the manufacture of tubes and pipes in everyday use. With the implementation of EU RoHS Directive, electrical products must meet the criteria for maximum concentration levels of lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and cadmium. Eco-friendly non-toxic products will become the mainstream, while those with a big environmental impact will have to improve their green credentials.  
     
 This is an interview summary with Mr. Cheng.  
     
 Q: What is ZINC POWER E.D.P.?  
     
 A:
ZINC POWER E.D.P. makes a breakthrough by eliminating the conventional production process
 
  of chromium compounds (sodium dichromate, potassium dichromate, chromic acid and cyanide compound). It is acidic zinc plating and electro-deposition prime. It prevails over issues such as darkness, lack of luster, yellowish, poor smoothness and adhesion. The products treated with ZINC POWER E.D.P. are tested by SGS to meet the RoHS standards for maximum concentration levels of lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and cadmium. The smooth plated surface makes the product to sell better. It gives luster as high as 90% of that of nickel and chrome plating. The coated layer on zinc alloy can reach as high as 8μ-12μ to offer a remarkable resistance to oxidization.  
     
Q: What is the impact of your ZINC POWER E.D.P. on the industry trends?  
     
A: We know people are getting more concerned about the effect on the environment, problems of  
  industrial waste water, cyanidecompound, and toxicity of hexavalent chrome. Besides, prices of metals such as gold, silver, copper, nickel and tin are rising. Choosing a less expensive zinc coating and corrosion protection technique can also obtain a high class of surface finish. Zinc plating includes cyanide compound plating, alkaline non-cyanide zinc plating and acid zinc plating.  
  ZINC POWER E.D.P. successfully collocates zinc plating and ELECTRO-DEPOSITION PRIME to produce the lustrous or matte appearance of nickel, satin nickel, black nickel, chrome, satin chrome, copper and brass, with similarity of 90% or more. It not only increases the value added but also can be used on the surface treatment of decorative metals. The most important is that ZINC POWER E.D.P. presents no problems such as cyanide compound and chromium compound, reducing the pollution of our environment to the minimum.  
     
Q: What is ELECTRO-DEPOSITION PRIME  
     
A: ELECTRO-DEPOSITION PRIME is the process of producing a coating, usually metallic, on a  
  surface by allowing the pigment and resin to move onto an object and form a metallic coating onto it. It features a water soluble process which is nontoxic and easy to automatic control. ELECTRO-DEPOSITION PRIME has been widely applied in automobile industry, building materials, hardware and electric appliances  
  Electro-deposition Prime is a process for coating an article by subjecting it to an electro-deposition in a bath containing water soluble paint, and by the action of electric current, both physical and chemical activities effect the resin and pigment in the paint to be deposited onto the article and form an insoluble coating. Electro-deposition Prime is a complicated electro chemical process which involves at least electro-phoresis, electro-precipitation, electro-osmosis, and electro-dialysis. Cationic electrodeposition by DC constant voltage has become increasingly popular and today is the most prevalent method of electro-deposition.  
     
Q: With the RoHS Directive coming into force, will green products become more mainstream on  
  mainstream?
A: Under the impact of RoHS, in 2005, the company has responded to the awareness on  
  environmental protection global wide and corporate social responsibilities by dedicating to the R & D of new plating materials that inflict minimal or no harm on the environment to promote the compliance of RoHS regulation. To be environmentally friendly is not a trade obstacle but a trend, those who are not well prepared for this may be knocked out of the market.
